Frequently Asked Questions

How old does my baby have to be to sleep train?

It is not recommended to formally sleep train babies until they are 16 weeks adjusted age. That doesn’t mean parents must wait four months to establish healthy sleep habits. Parents who work to establish healthy sleep foundations from the beginning may find they have to do very little sleep training at all.

Why should I hire a sleep consultant? There are thousands of free resources out there.

There is no shortage of advice on how to get your child to sleep on the internet. When I was sleep deprived with my infant, I spent hundreds of hours reading articles about what I could do to get my son to sleep. The truth is, my sleep deprived brain couldn’t process the information and formulate it to any type of real, actionable plan. Hiring someone who had the training to educate me and help me put together a plan and coach me along the way, helped me feel assured I was doing the right thing for my son and my family.

Hiring me, you get a mother who is certified and trained in infant and child sleep. I have read the books and done my research. I can help you fix your specific sleep problems and point you in the right direction. My number one goal is to empower families to achieve their goals as it relates to their little ones sleep and help them be confident in the plan we put together.

What can I expect from our time together?

I offer a variety of services which you can review through the services page. Each package includes an intake form to complete before we begin our consultation. The intake form helps me get a better understanding of the challenges your little one and family are experiencing and what your goals are for your child’s sleep. We will schedule a time for consultation, and from there develop a plan I will help you implement. You will receive a written plan and we will begin implementing your plan at the decided upon date. Over the next (one to two weeks, depending on plan) I will check in with you and give you further support as outlined in your package.

Not sure what package will be would be best for you? Contact me and we can set up a complimentary get acquainted call.

Are there other sleep methods beyond letting my child “cry it out?”

Yes, sleep training goes beyond letting your child “cry it out” (CIO). I would never ask parents to use a method they are not comfortable with. There are a variety of methods we can try as they relate to your child’s sleep situation. However, that does not mean there won’t be any crying. A child may cry when you tell them not to run into the street, but that doesn’t mean you would let them do it because they were crying. It is our job as parents to keep our children safe. When a child realizes this, they stop crying. The same can be said for your child’s sleep. Your child may cry during sleep training to protest the change that has occurred because they are not used to it. The protesting quickly stops once they are well rested.

How quickly can I expect to see results? I need sleep, like yesterday!

Many factors contribute to how quickly a family can expect to see results. Your child’s age, the issues your family is facing and the sleep training method your family has chosen.

If your child is younger than a year and you are consistent about the changes we are implementing, you may see results in as early as a few days to a week. If your child is much older and the sleep issues have been ongoing for a while, it may take up to two or three weeks to see a change.

Consistency is the key when implementing changes in a child’s sleep. That is the value in hiring me to help your family with your child’s sleep needs. I will give you a clear plan to follow, follow up with you daily during our time together and help guide you so we can see positive results as quickly as possible.
